The Undergrove Axe

Hello there,

This is a project I've been working on in my spare time for the past month. It was an interesting one because of the new techniques and style I went for this time around. I used photogrammetry to create my own environmental assets, the pictures were taken in my local woodland. The grass and some additional ground foliage were taken from the quixel store.

As you may have gathered from my previous posts, I love all things mediaeval, magical, and weapon design-related, so this project was so much fun for me. I originally drew the sketch of this druidic axe in my second year of university, and I have always wanted to iterate on it using 3D, so this was the perfect opportunity.

This project is less of a game-ready environment piece and more of a cinematic/photogrammetry experiment. I hope to incorporate photogrammetry into my next project and focus more on the optimisation of the scanned assets.

I ended up adding the brightly coloured stems and some ivy crawling up the axe as seen in the original design, I included both versions in this post because I wasn't sure which I liked more.

I think perhaps this version may be a more evolved form of the weapon. Perhaps as the player progressed, so too would the weapon, sprouting all manner of flowers/fungi.
